The 112-year old school, which was on the verge of closedown, was renovated under the aegis of an initiative called PRISM, ( Promoting Regional Schools to International Standards through Multiple Interventions). The renovation was taken as probono project under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of Indian Institute of Architects.Here architecture is the medium to address the imbalance in society that arises from the inefficient functioning of public schools and resultant growth of private schools. To eradicate the bias in the society, modification is required at the grassroots level. Karapparambu GHSS emphasizes the freedom for students to learn and grow by providing an open distinctive educational system. It encourages students to have a relationship with their environment and claim ownership of it. As one enters the campus, an experience of a scaled down neighborhood or city beckons.
